My Relationship with God: Friend or Acquaintance?
By Aurora Coldwater
We all have friends and acquaintances, but what’s the difference? A friend is someone you are close to, spend time with, and someone you talk to. An acquaintance is a person that you’ve met, but you haven’t really developed a strong relationship with yet. We all understand this to be true of our relationships in our everyday lives, but do we think about it when it comes to our relationship with God?
The relationship you cultivate with God is the most important one you will ever have, yet it is often overlooked. This relationship is what will determine where you spend your eternity, either granting you an entrance to heaven, or damnation to a devil’s hell. Two or three hours a week learning about God at “church” simply won’t suffice. You must invest in your relationship with the LORD on a personal level every day.
Each of us are responsible for our own personal study of God’s word. We are commanded in 2 Timothy 2:15 to, “study to show thyself approved unto God, a worker who needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Again, in 2 Peter 3:15 we are commanded to ALWAYS be ready to give a defense to those who ask. Knowing Him, through His word, is absolutely essential to our salvation.
