What We Can Know About Heaven
By Bobbi Napier
We often wonder what Heaven will be like. We try to study the scriptures and understand how things will be. Some may compare it to their favorite Bible camp or Polishing the Pulpit where so many Christians gather together, encourage one another, teach each other and sing praises to God. People often compare Heaven to those events but of course Heaven will be so much better. It’s events like those that make us long for Heaven even more and while they are absolutely amazing, the best weeks of the year, I don’t think we can truly grasp just how amazing Heaven will be. With all that being said there are things that we do know about Heaven so let’s look at those further:
It is prepared for us.
Heaven is prepared for us and if we are faithful Christians we can have assurance that we will be there after this life.
Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know” (John 14:1-4).
Do we have a reservation in Heaven? We can have assurance of our eternal reward in Heaven if we have made our reservation (obeying the gospel and living faithfully).
Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).
2. It is unfading.
It will never lose its original brightness or beauty. Things in this world will perish but Heaven is eternal and will always be the same.
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal” (Matthew 6:19-20).
3. It is all good.
We may never understand everything about Heaven or what it is really like but we can know that it is bright and there will be no darkness or evil there. This world will have its trouble. We will have to deal with some, but in Heaven all will be good and we won’t have to deal with troubles of the world any longer.
For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
This is what Paul said that death would be gain. He knew that on the other side of this life he would be with Christ and there would be rest.
Every soul has an eternal destination, I hope that yours will be Heaven.
