Take Time to Be Holy

By Bobbi Napier

Take Time To Be Holy, most of you have probably heard that song. Today let’s look at some of that song and see what it is teaching us.

“Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord.”

In today’s world everyone is so busy, always rushing from one thing to the next, always something to do and somewhere to go. Being busy isn’t a bad thing, God doesn’t want us to be lazy. He wants us to provide for our needs, take care of our families, etc. Going out shopping, being with friends or having fun with our families are not bad, but when we become so busy that we don’t have time to spend with God, that is where the problem comes in.

“Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord.”

Are we so busy with all the various things mentioned above that we don’t have time to spend with God in prayer? Prayer is so important to our relationship with God, we must take the time to communicate with Him through the avenue of prayer.

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16).

Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Are we taking time to pray throughout our daily lives? Are we praying when we are thankful, happy, sad, hurting, etc. We should be taking time pray all throughout our day.

“Abide with Him always and feed on His Word.”

No matter how busy our days may get we always make the time to eat at some point during the day right? Then why is studying God’s word any different? God’s word is our spiritual food. Without it we will die spiritually. We have to be careful not to get too busy to study God’s word, not just a quickly daily Bible reading, but making sure that we regularly have time to study God’s word in depth.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

“Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak.”

Are we taking time to fellowship and encourage each other? Are we taking the time to help others when they need it? Or are we just too busy?

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! (Psalm 133:1).

“Take Time to be holy, the world rushes on.”

The world is always rushing about. Busy with sports, school, and work, always moving from one thing to the next. As Christians we have to take the time to do the things that matter most, Bible study, prayer, helping others, etc. Are we taking the time to spend on these things, or becoming too busy with our daily lives?
