A Christian’s New Year’s Resolutions
By Rachel Head
The new year is almost upon us and as it comes many people are already making their resolutions. Some people want to exercise more, learn new hobbies, save more money, spend more time with family, and much more. As an almost-adult, I am tempted to think or worry about these things. For example, if I were to make resolutions like the rest of the world does they would look like this: finish high school off strong, work hard so that I will have enough money for college, try to show my dog more, and start college off great. But as a Christian, are these things that we need to focus on?
As a Christian, we should always strive to do better on a daily basis not just at the beginning of the year. I am going to give a few suggestions on what our New Year’s and daily resolutions should look like.
● Strive to gain more godly characteristics.
-1 Timothy 6:11 “But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.”
● Strive to pray more.
- Ephesians 6:18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”
● Strive to delve deeper into the Bible.
-2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
● Strive to shine our lights wherever we go.
-Matthew 5: 13-14 “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”
As Christians, we should think more about our spiritual life than our physical life. We should aim to please God more than the world.
