Are We Pure in Heart?

By Bobbi Napier

Why should we strive to be pure in heart?

Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God -Matthew 5:8

Pure means not mixed, or adulterated with anything else, it means something is free of contamination, wholesome and untainted by immorality.

We are to be without sin. We know there is only one who was truly without sin, and that was Jesus. We also know that when we become cleansed of our sins. God forgives us of our sins and does not remember them anymore, after this point we will fail at times, because we are human but if we are walking in the light, continuing to live a Christian life and repenting, not living in sin, then we can still be pure.

Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart -1 Peter 1:22

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart -Galatians 6:9

The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fulness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters. Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully -Psalm 24:1-4

Many in the world today think they have a pure heart, but their choices and actions don’t reflect that.

What is the biblical heart? 2588 kardia - heart; “the affective center of our being” and the capacity of moral preference (volitional desire, choice; see P. Hughs, 2 Cor, 354); “desire-producer that makes us tick” (G. Archer), i.e. our “desire-decisions” that establish who we really are.

The biblical heart is our mind, our actions, and desires. If we have a pure heart that will be shown in our actions, words, desires, and all that we do.

Christ was pure, and while we can never be perfect like He was, we can still be pure in heart.

Praying that we will all stay strong and remain pure!
