Are you a teen who owns her faith? Are you a teen who puts her faith into action? According to a study by Pew Research Center, 63 percent of teenagers these days claim to be a Christian. Once they grow up, however, a whopping 34 percent of teens didn’t return to church during the ages of 18-22, as discovered by a study conducted by Lifeway Research.

Paul, an apostle of Jesus, writes in Philemon 1:6 “...and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ'' (ESV). Our faith should be EFFECTIVE in the spreading of the Good News, aka the gospel. Evangelism is the perfect way to do this. Here are three ways any teen can be an evangelistic influence in their community.

  • Send someone a card (or a text).

This tip is old-school but it works wonders! A card can brighten someone's day and make them feel cared for. You know those people at church who thank people for giving them cards when they were sick? It obviously meant a lot to them. If you’re in high school and feel like it’s too weird to send someone a card, shoot them a text instead. Maybe, if they’re also a teen, invite them to come with you to church, even.

  • Be a good influence on younger kids.

This one can be hard. After all, it can be a lot of pressure to have those small, impressionable eyes studying your every move. Just remember that anything nice you say to them will have a big impact on them. Think of your influence as power! “With great power comes great responsibility,” says the adage.

  • Give your neighbors something.

According to a poll, 65.8 percent of Americans are homeowners. That means you most likely have neighbors. Do something nice for them! Bake them cookies or whatever you want and then, when you give it to them, invite them to church or ask if they want to study the Bible with you.

The message I want to leave you with is simple: evangelism isn’t rocket science. It’s simple. It just takes a little bit of effort. Paul’s message to us is that we need effective faith. Evangelism is a good way to put this Bible verse into action.
